Every year around this time we prepare for a great party to celebrate Christmas and do a good deed at the same time. This year we are hosting a fundraiser dessert buffet party for CanTeen — the cancer support services foundation for young people. For just $12, you get to enjoy a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet of scones with jam and cream, Death by Chocolate cake, chocolate mousse cups, swiss rolls, and many more together with coffee and tea. You won’t get a better deal in any cafe, and it’s all in the name of charity :> The details for this great event as follows:
  Date: Saturday, 9th December
  Time: 3pm to 5pm
Location: Swinburne Staff Club (Bldg 29W), Swinburne University, Wakefield St, Hawthorn
  Cost: $12
This is the 5th year we are holding a Christmas charity event for a children/young people related charity. Our events in previous years have always been successful, raising anywhere between $600 to $900, it is our wish that our success continues this year for this very worthy cause.
If you and your friends would like to come along for an afternoon of indulgence, or simply make a donation, please RSVP your attendence and number of people to ttchang@au1.ibm.com, or write2mamtas@gmail.com so we can cater accordingly.
Then after the event you can post a review of it here! ;>

If you haven’t heard of Krispy Kremes, you must have been living under the rock for the past 6 months.. I have long heard from friends who have tried them in Sydney that it’s fantastic but I never imagined it would cause such a phenomenon here in Melbourne. So finally a couple of days ago, I got my first taste of Krispy Kreme in their new Collins St store just to see what all the fuss is about…
We didnt’ get it when the ‘hot light’ is on, so I tried the original glazed Krispy Kreme cold, and I was somewhat disappointed. It was very fluffy inside and the taste was nice but not that outstanding from other donuts. So I microwaved another orignal glazed later (afterally, we have a couple of boxes of them… it seems to be the trend that you gotta get a couple of boxes after lining up for 1/2 an hr) and I must say, having it hot makes a significant difference. the insides of the donut went from very fluffy to literally melt-in-your-mouth fluffy and the glaze becomes a smooth syrup rather than solidified white stuff. Other flavous I tried subsequently are the cream-filled chocolate and custard-filled donut. Both fluffy and nice but I still prefer the original glazed.
Now my opinion after having a proper taste of it… the Krispy Kremes are definitely different from other donuts, but for me it is just a tad too syrupy sweet (they are so filling I couldn’t have dinner after eating 2 of them), and while I might pick one up if I pass by a store and there happens to be no queues, I would not consider them worth lining up a coupla hours for. Given the choice, I would pick the fresh Lix Gelato sugar/cinnamon dusted donuts over Krispy Kremes anyday…but that’s just me ;>
Krispy Kreme stores are now located in Westfield Fountain Gate and in the city in Collins St, near Spencer St, and rumour has it a new one has opened in Chadstone shopping centre too (I can only imagine how hard it will be to find parking now ;> )
